Half-Way Motors has been a family tradition in the city for half a century.
The Nissan car dealership celebrated its 50th anniversary Wednesday evening and general manager John Trevisanutto said their longevity is because of the people of Thunder Bay.
"Thunder Bay's been an awesome community to work in. They've been good to our family and very supportive of our dealership," he said.
Half-Way began with Trevisanutto's father as a Studebaker franchise on Hodder Avenue in Current River in 1963.
Two years later they moved to Memorial Avenue and it grew from there, said Trevisanutto.
In 1968, they added the Datsun line, which later became Nissan.
"We've been here ever since," said Trevisanutto, adding the anniversary was a little emotional for him.
With Half-Way passing from Trevisanutto's father down to him, the dealership has been a family business and it will continue to be.
Five years ago, there were no other family members working at Half-Way, but today two of Trevisanutto's sons work there and Wednesday it was announced his son-in-law will become the new general manager.
"It's in good hands," he said. It's really exciting to know the future is secure for Half-Way Motors in Thunder Bay."
