This project is leftover from last year when the Harbour Expressway and Fort William Road were getting the intersection updated.

THUNDER BAY — More work is expected to happen at the intersection of Memorial Avenue and the Harbour Expressway.

Matthew Miedema, project engineer with the city, said construction is going to pick up over the next couple of weeks.

"They're going to be working on the curb and gutters and the sidewalk ramps and pole bases. Then, following that, the next week, they will be working overnight.

"There will be night closures starting at 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and that will allow crews to do the trench work across the intersection for the electrical ducts."

This project is a leftover from last year when the Harbour Expressway and Fort William Road were getting the intersection updated.

Miedema explained the work that is being completed this year.

"Rebuilding the traffic signals at the intersection of Memorial Avenue and Harbour Expressway. The intersection is long overdue for renewal. So I think it's time to replace the poles, put a new traffic controller system and upgrade the pavement through the intersection."

As the traffic lights are being upgraded during this project, they are already included in the city's approved traffic signal synchronization plan.

The project engineer said drivers can expect some lane reductions as the work progresses. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of June.
