THUNDER BAY -- After two straight days of growth, the active COVID-19 case count in the District of Thunder Bay has dropped again.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Friday announced four new confirmed cases, but also said six previously announced cases are considered to be resolved, leaving the region with 34 active cases.
The seven-day, per-100,000 case count grew slightly to 20.01, leaving the district firmly entrenched in the Yellow level of the province's colour-coded reopening framework, which has been superceded by a six-week stay-at-home order, which on Thursday was extended to June 2.
The health unit also announced seven new cases considered to be variants of concern, bringing the total number of confirmed VOC cases to 68.
Three of the new COVID-19 cases reside in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, while one is in a First Nation community.
One of the cases is considered to be due to close contact, one from travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, one is still being investigated and one has no known exposure category.
There have been 3,161 cases in the District of Thunder Bay since the pandemic began, with 3,054 considered resolved. There have also been 62 deaths, but none since April 22.
