Health unit announces 10 new COVID-19 cases

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced 10 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday.

THUNDER BAY - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced 10 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Saturday, while the number of active cases in the district fell from 109 to 101. 

All 10 cases announced Saturday were in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas, which includes Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing, Gillies, Shuniah, Conmee, O'Connor, and some unorganized territories.

Two cases were associated with an ongoing outbreak at Southbridge Roseview long-term care home, following surveillance testing conducted on Wednesday.

Four others were considered a result of close contact with an existing case, while two had no known exposure, and the exposure category for another two cases was listed as "pending."

All of the individuals are now self-isolating, the health unit reported, while anyone identified as a close contact will be contacted directly by public health authorities.

There were 101 active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay District as of Saturday. The district has seen a cumulative total of 493 cases, with 378 considered resolved and 14 deaths associated with the virus.

There were no individuals hospitalized with the virus as of Saturday morning.
