Health Unit announces 21 new COVID-19 cases

Latest cases mark the eighth time this year there have been 20 or more cases announced in a single day.

THUNDER BAY – After reporting just 19 combined COVID-19 cases the first three days this week, the numbers have jumped again.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Thursday confirmed 21 new cases of the virus in the area, upping the total number of cases back to triple digits at 106.

Nine of the cases are connected to an outbreak at the Thunder Bay District Jail, where there have been 118 cases since the outbreak was declared in early January.

Seven additional cases are considered close contact, while five other exposure categories are pending.

Eight cases were deemed resolved, bringing the total number of resolved cases since last March to 971. There have been 1,104 COVID-19 cases over the past 11 months, 519 in 2021 alone.
