THUNDER BAY -- For the second straight day, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has announced four new cases of COVID-19 within its catchment area.

The health unit on Thursday also announced 15 previously announced cases have been resolved, leaving the district with just 61 active cases, the lowest number since there were 49 on Jan. 8.

The region's seven-day, per-100,000 climbed slightly to 36.68, but the figure has been below 40, the threshold to return to Orange when the province-wide shutdown ends, for seven of the past eight days.

Two of the cases are considered close contact, while the other was deemed to have been contracted through household contact. The other case remains under investigation.

The Thunder Bay District has now had 2,992 confirmed cases since the pandemic began, with 2,875 considered to be resolved. There have been 56 deaths.
