THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay residents now have one more easy option to get a flu shot, something health authorities say is especially crucial amid a resurgence of influenza cases this year.
Residents can now walk in to get a flu shot at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit’s CLE clinic, as well as its pop-up clinics planned in the city and surrounding areas.
The health unit previously made flu shots available to those who attended to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
The flu shot is available to anyone six months and above.
Children under five, adults 65 and older, Indigenous people, those with chronic illnesses, and pregnant women are all considered to be at high risk.
Thunder Bay’s medical officer of health, Dr. Janet DeMille, recently expressed concern over the combined impact of a resurgent flu, COVID-19, and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) on children’s health and hospital capacity.
Residents in district communities can continue to access the flu vaccine through pharmacies, public clinics organized by health care providers, or with a COVID-19 vaccine at the health unit’s district clinics, the TBDHU said.
