Health Unit reporting 13 new COVID-19 cases, three new variant cases

The number of active cases is now at 91 with 20 previous cases now considered resolved.

THUNDER BAY - There are three new variant of concern cases reported in the Thunder Bay District, as the number of active cases continues to decline.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 13 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, representing totals from the previous two days. The health unit is no longer providing daily updates on Sundays. 

The health unit also reported three previously announced cases have screened positive for a variant of concern.

This brings the total number of variant cases identified in the district to seven.

There were also 20 previous cases now considered resolved, bringing the total number of active cases in the district to 91, the lowest it's been since Jan. 20,when there were 79 active cases. 

The new cases reported on Monday include nine from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, one from district communities, and three from First Nation communities.

Three cases are the result of household contacts, three from other close contact, three with no known exposure, three from travel outside of the region, and one still pending.

There was one additional hospitalization and the total number of individuals from the district currently in hospital is 14, with five in the intensive care unit.

To date, there have been 2,975 cases of COVID-19 in the Thunder By District.
