Health unit reporting 38 new COVID-19 cases

THUNDER BAY - The number of active COVID-19 cases in the district has fallen to under 400 for the first time in more than two weeks.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 38 new COVID-19 cases in the district. There are also an additional 45 cases now considered resolved, bringing the total number of active cases to 399.

This is the first time the active case count has fallen to under 400 since March 6, after having peaked at 470 on March 7.

Of the new cases, 31 are from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, two in First Nation communities, five in district communities, and one from the outbreak at the Walford retirement home.  

There are 16 cases listed as a result of household contacts, 10 other close contacts, seven with no known exposure, and four exposures pending.

There are five new hospitalizations according to the health unit.

The cumulative total since the pandemic began now sits at 2,571.
