Health unit reporting one additional death, 12 new COVID-19 cases

THUNDER BAY - One more person has passed away from COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay District, as the number of active cases continues to decline.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 12 new cases on Friday, with five from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas and seven from First Nation communities.

Of the new cases, seven have no known exposure, two are the result of close contact, one from travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, and two are pending.

The health unit is reporting 14 additional cases are now resolved, bringing the total number of active cases to 101, the lowest it has been since Feb. 10.

There is one additional death, bringing the total death toll related to the virus to 55.

There are also two additional hospitalizations and 12 people from the district are now in hospital due to COVID-19, with five in the intensive care unit.

Since the start of the pandemic, the district has reported a total of 2,949 cases of COVID-19.
