Health unit reports 32 new COVID-19 cases

Active case count falls to lowest level in over two weeks, with health unit reporting 52 cases resolved.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported 32 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Saturday, all in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas.

With 52 previous cases also declared resolved, the active case count fell to 379, its lowest level since March 3.

The health unit has now reported over 2,000 new cases so far in 2021, compared with 585 in 2020.

Eight of the new cases were considered a result of household contact, seven other close contact, nine had no known exposure, and one was connected to the ongoing outbreak at the Walford retirement home, while an exposure category for seven others was pending.

The health unit reported one new hospitalization. There were 45 district residents hospitalized with the virus as of Saturday, with 16 of those in the Intensive Care Unit.

The district's incidence rate stood at roughly 202.75 cases per 100,000 people over the past seven days.
