THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with the active case count remaining at levels not seen since June.
The number of active COVID-19 cases across the district rose to 33, the highest point since June 16, with two previously reported cases declared resolved.
Of the new cases, four involved residents of Thunder Bay and surrounding communities, while one involved a resident of a district community.
Four were attributed to close contact with a previously identified case, while an exposure category for the fifth was still pending.
The number of residents in hospital with the virus fell to zero Tuesday, from one the previous day.
The health unit had reported 17 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the highest single-day count since June 4.
Many of the active cases relate to an outbreak at St. Martin School, where 20 cases were confirmed as of Monday evening.
