COVID-19 12

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported seven new COVID-19 cases on Friday.

With one existing case declared resolved, that brought the total number of active cases across the district to 19.

Many of those are related to an outbreak at St. Martin school in Thunder Bay. Nine cases had been confirmed at the elementary school as of Thursday evening, when the Thunder Bay District Catholic School Board announced it would close the school at least through Monday.

It's not yet clear if any of the new cases reported Friday were also tied to that outbreak.

All seven of the new cases involved Thunder Bay-area residents, and were considered a result of close contact with a previously reported case.

No new deaths or hospitalizations were reported, with one district resident remaining in hospital with the virus.
