Heat warnings are in place for much of northwestern Ontario.

THUNDER BAY - Northwestern Ontario residents hoping to escape scorching temperatures from a lingering heatwave will have to wait a little longer, Environment Canada predicts.

Temperatures are expected to stay near 30 C Saturday and Sunday, leading to heat warnings for much of the region that are set to last into early next week.

With the humidex, weekend temperatures will feel much hotter - up to 37 C in Kenora and 35 C in Thunder Bay, for example.

Environment Canada predicts some relief by Tuesday, with nighttime temperatures expected to drop below 15 C, though highs are still predicted to reach into the upper twenties through much of the week.
