THUNDER BAY -- A heat warning continues on Sunday for the City of Thunder Bay.
According to Environment Canada, temperatures in the city are expected to reach as high as 34 degrees, with humidex values from the mid-30s to nearly 40.
The low for the day is 18 degrees.
The good news is there could be a reprieve as early as Monday, when a cold front is expected to track eastward across the region, reaching Geraldton, Ont. by Monday morning.
Environment Canada says the heat leads to elevated risks for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses or people working or exercising outdoors.
They advise to drink plenty of water, even before feeling thirsty, and try to stay in a cool place. Pet owners should never leave animals inside parked vehicles.
The public should also keep an eye out for heat-related illnesses, including dizziness/fainting; nausea/vomiting; rapid breathing and heartbeat; extreme thirst; decreased urination with unusually dark urine.
