Bruce Hyer’s heavy eyelids got the best of him during the NDP leader’s debate.
The MP for Thunder Bay – Superior North attended his party’s leadership debate last week but was unable to keep his eyes open.
A video posted on CBC showed Hyer sitting in the background just over the shoulders of two of the candidates. In the video, Hyer had a tough time keeping his eyes open during a portion of the debate.
While he’s not complaining about the long hours, Hyer told tbnewswatch.com that he puts in about 90-hours a week and during the French debate his eyes closed for about a minute.
“I’m guilty as charged,” Hyer said. “This isn’t a big deal. I did nod off during the French debate but I do wish that media would focus on the real issues and problems here in Canada.
“We have a growing income gap, we have problems with pensions, we have seniors who are eating dog food, and we have First Nations that don’t have clean water or good housing. But if they really want to focus on an MP nodding off, I suppose that’s fun for them.”
Hyer added that he`ll let his constiuents decide what issues are important and which ones are fluff.
