THUNDER BAY - A former city councillor facing an attempted murder charge is expected to be released on bail early next week.

Larry Hebert made a brief court appearance on Thursday where he was remanded into custody until Monday, Jan. 27.

David Young, who is representing Hebert, informed the court that a surety has been found and the details of Hebert’s release need to be finalized. He also indicated the Crown was in agreement with the release plan.

Hebert has been in custody for 67 days following his arrest on Nov. 14, 2019, when he was charged with attempted murder.

Police were called to a Vickers Street South home on the afternoon of Nov. 14 after receiving reports of a disturbance.

According to the initial media release from the Thunder Bay Police Service, an individual was attacked by a male at the residence and was also threatened. The individual was able to flee to another residence to call 911.

Hebert served three terms on city council and was first elected in 2006. He was unsuccessful in his re-election bid in 2018.

There is a publication ban in place on the details of the case.
