April is Daffodil Month.

THUNDER BAY -- It's that time of year again, as spring begins, so too does Daffodil Month in Thunder Bay.

The Canadian Cancer Society fundraising campaign kicked off Tuesday at City Hall.

The yellow flower has long been a symbol of the fight against cancer.

All of the money raised this month from daffodil pin sales go toward helping local patients and their families, as well as research and support services.

The flag raised Tuesday will remain up for the rest of the month, showing the city's support for the campaign.

Cancer Society Regional manager Maria Cabral said wearing the pin symbolizes support for those who have been touched by the disease.

“We can’t continue to do the work that we do with our programs and services without fundraising,” Cabral said.

“By purchasing a daffodil pin and wearing it on your jacket or lapel, you are showing people that might be going through a cancer journey that you support them.”

Cabral added part of the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission is to create a world where no one fears cancer.

The pins will be sold all month at participating banks, restaurants and other businesses around the city.
