Glen Wilson needs the community’s help with his new job.
Wilson stepped down as president of the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society board and took over as executive director after Maryann Kleynendorst stepped down last month. She took a job with the city. While Kleynendorst navigated the humane society through difficult times, Wilson said the local animal shelter is still losing up to $3,000 a month.
“That’s really what I want to focus on,” Wilson said.
A financial advisor, Wilson is keeping that job, which means he cut the executive director salary in half when he took over last week. That helps keep expenses down. Staff and veterinary bills make up the bulk of the humane society’s expenses.
“We would like to keep them down or at least keep them where they are,” he said.
His next step is looking for financial support from the city and other levels of government.
“Any help that we can get but our main focus is going to be back into the community,” Wilson said.
The community can help by making donations the society through its PADS for Paws program.
