THUNDER BAY — The Lakehead Thunderwolves may have a little more boost from their blueline next season.
Coming off a campaign that saw them fall a win short of a trip to nationals, the Thunderwolves on Thursday announced the commitment of high-scoring defenceman Ed McNeill, who put up 77 points in 52 games for his hometown Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
McNeill, 20, also had brief stints in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and led the Capitals last year to the Centennial Cup.
"Ed had a record year for his team, creating offense at a very high level. He has an outstanding ability to make plays all over the ice and understands how to put himself into scoring positions. His intelligence will allow him to step into our program and make an immediate impact,” said Lakehead coach Andrew Wilkins, in a post to the team’s Instagram page.
McNeill, who has 18 points in a dozen playoff games this season, can’t wait to get things started at the university level.
"I am extremely excited and honoured to have the opportunity to play U Sport hockey for the Thunderwolves and play for Andrew, as I have heard nothing but great things about the program, the fan base and him as a coach. I can't wait to play in front of a packed Fort William Gardens,” he said.
