THUNDER BAY - One person has been sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a collision involving a transport truck and a pedestrian on Highway 11/17.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a collision Saturday morning at approximately 6:10 a.m. between Red River Road and Balsam Street.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, a transport truck was travelling east bound on Highway 11/17 when it struck a pedestrian walking on the side of the highway.
The pedestrian has been transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The OPP Technical Collision Investigators are investigating with assistance by the Thunder Bay Police Service and its unmanned aerial vehicle.
The highway between Red River Road and Balsam Street was closed for several hours while the investigation was underway. The highway has since reopened to traffic.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have seen a pedestrian walking in the area earlier in the morning or any information that could assist investigators to contact the OPP 1-888-310-1122.
