Update Highway 17 near Terrace Bay reopened

TERRACE BAY, Ont. -- A section of Highway 17 along the North Shore has been closed after a number of transports have gotten stuck.

The OPP issued a media release Friday morning, advising the highway was closed 20 kilometres east of Terrace Bay after numerous tractor trailers have become stuck on Jackfish Hill.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for the Marathon and Schreiber regions. Snowfall of up to 30 centimetres are possible by Friday evening.

The national weather service recommends drivers turn on their lights and to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and warn that travel can be hazardous.
