WAWA, Ont. — The Trans-Canada Highway was closed south of Wawa on Wednesday morning due to weather conditions.

Ontario 511 reported that adverse weather conditions had forced the shutdown of Highway 17 between Wawa and Batchewana.

Snow squall warnings which had been issued for the Agawa and Lake Superior Park areas, and for Batchewana Bay, Montreal River Harbour and Searchmont areas were lifted at 9:07 a.m. and 9:46 a.m. Wednesday respectively.

But Environment Canada issued snow squall watches for Agawa/Lake Superior Park for later in the day, saying up to 10 centimetres of snow could fall under the most intense snow squalls which it expected Wednesday evening.
