Highway 72 reopens after early morning traffic stop

Dryden OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Southworth Township when the driver of the vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed.

DRYDEN — Dryden Ontario Provincial Police have reopened Highway 72 in both directions after an early morning traffic stop resulted in a vehicle speeding away from police at a high rate of speed.

On Thursday, April 15, OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Southworth Township, east of Dryden, according to a news release.

During the interaction, the driver drove off at a high rate of speed. Police decided not to pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety.

Just before 7 a.m. on Highway 72 officers located the suspect vehicle and suspect on Thursday morning. 

The investigation is ongoing and police say there is no threat to public safety at this time.
