Highway crash ends with impaired charges for driver

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at approximately 10:17 pm, Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 61, south of the airport.

The driver of a Ford Escape was north bound on Highway 61 when the driver collided with several guide rails along the shoulder of Highway 61.

Officers spoke with the driver and determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was transported to detachment for further tests.

A 20-year-old woman from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Refuse to Provide Breath Sample contrary to the Criminal Code.

She is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 5, 2016 to answer to the charge.

On Friday, February 26, at approximately 12:50 am, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11/17 near Oliver Road.
The officer spoke with the driver and determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was transported to detachment for further tests.

A  25-year-old man from Gorham Township was arrested and charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code.

He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 26, 2016 to answer to the charge.
