Police say a runner was killed Monday afternoon after a crash on the Thunder Bay Expressway.

OPP acting Staff Sgt. David Moscall said Monday that the event took place between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Monday.

Police say Katherine Chezick, 50, from Thunder Bay was pronounced dead at the scene near the corner of John Street and Highway 11/17.

Police say the incident involved a transport truck being driven southbound and a runner. The woman and truck collided when the jogger tried to cross the Highway on John Street.

Highway 11/17 is now open to the public. Police were forced to shutdown the highway completely following the crash.

All four lanes of Highway were closed from Oliver Road to Red River Road. The closure led to a traffic jam on Junot Avenue from Red River Road to Golf Links Road. Thunder Bay Police Service officers directed traffic in that area.

Police say the traffic jams led to at least one minor accident on the Expressway.

The investigation into the fatal collision continues.
