The OPP is reporting a drop in highway fatalities in 2011 compared to the 2010.
The lower numbers are being seen across Ontario, including here in the Northwest.
According to the OPP, there were 328 reported deaths along provincial highways, which OPP police officers patrol in 2010.
That number dropped to 285 fatalities in 2011, a decrease of 13 per cent.
Meanwhile, there was a 33 per cent decrease for the OPP in this region, as the number of people killed fell from 21 in 2010 to 14 in 2011. There has also been a decline in other types of fatalities across the province.
The 2011 statistics show there were 22 marine deaths on OPP patrolled waterways, 14 off-road vehicle deaths, and 15 fatal snowmobile incidents.
All of those numbers are considerably lower than they were in 2010.
In the Northwest, there were three boating deaths, two ATV fatalities, and one snowmobile death in 2011.
