Hitchhiker, single-vehicle collision keep police busy Saturday evening

A hitchhiker was charged with a seatbelt infraction after police observed a man jumping onto a tractor-trailer Saturday. Just before 9 p.m. Saturday night a city police officer observed a hitchhiker jump onto the stopped tractor-trailer.

Just before 9 p.m. Saturday night a city police officer observed a hitchhiker jump onto the stopped tractor-trailer.

The officer pulled the truck over a short time later and located the man in the open space between the cab and the trailer.

Later that evening around 10:30 p.m. A 36-year old man crashed a pickup truck into a ditch after taking the vehicle from a family gathering without permission.

The crash occurred on Highway 588 and East Arrow Lake Road.

The driver has been charged with taking a vehicle without consent and fail to remain.
