NEWS RELEASE
THUNDER BAY POLICE SERVICE
***************************

The Thunder Bay Police Service is reminding parents and guardians to consider having conversations with their children about the potential hazards of hitch hiking.

This warning comes after police received a complaint about a recent altercation between two youth hitch hikers and their driver.

Police learned two youths, a 13-year-old male and 15-year-old male, were attempting to hitchhike on the city’s south side in the late evening hours of Tuesday, Sept. 1 when they were offered a ride by a male who was unknown to them.

The motorist agreed to provide the youths with a ride to a north-side location. While heading toward their requested destination the driver and youths became involved in an altercation.

The youths exited the vehicle, ran away, and reported their encounter to adults they knew.

Police are now investigating the complaint and the exact nature of the altercation inside the vehicle.

Police are requesting that if you may have been the driver of the black Honda sedan that provided two youths with a ride on the evening of Sept. 1, please contact police at 684-1200.
