Construction of the Hodder interchange is ahead of schedule, says an official from the Ministry of Transportation.
Work on the interchange at Hodder Avenue and Highway 11/17 began this summer and has a completion deadline for 2013. However, the $45 million project may be finished as early as next fall, said regional contracts engineer Wayne Prystanski.
“Based on the amount of work the contractor has done and with the original schedule he had submitted, we can see at the present time he is ahead of schedule,” Prystanski said Thursday.
Paving of the two new eastbound lanes and work on the construction of the two ramps on the south side of the interchange still need to be completed, as well as rock excavation and grading.
The contractor is taking advantage of the warm fall weather and will continue to work until the onset of winter, said Prystanski.
“Then they will shut down probably for about two or three months,” he said. “They’ll be back early in the spring to start up again.”
The public should not expect any traffic delays in the area with the exception of the occasional flagging operations when equipment needs to be moved across the highway.
