THUNDER BAY -- The Hoito Restaurant is filing for bankruptcy.

The iconic Thunder Bay eatery has published a notice to creditors that it had filed an assignment on May 27 and the first public meeting of creditors will be held on June 16 at 11 a.m. via teleconference.

The restaurant, known world-wide for its Finnish pancakes and cuisine, has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last month the Finlandia Association, which operates the Finnish Labour Temple the restaurant is housed in, announced it was entering a liquidation process, citing more than $1 million in debt.
