The brightly coloured paper and foil gift wrap concealing Christmas gifts cannot be recycled due to the extremely high ink content of the paper.
Discarded wrapping paper should not be placed with paper products in the blue bags for recycling.

“They will not collect recycling bags that contain wrapping paper,” said Jason Sherband, co-ordinator of the solid waste diversion and recycling, roads division.
“Wrappings must be put out with your regular garbage.”
Residents can help reduce the volume of paper wasted by packing away wrap you receive and using it next year.
Other options that are growing in popularity are fabric gift bags that can be re-used year after year, or reusable paper gift bags.
