THUNDER BAY -- For the first time in recent memory, there were no traffic fatalities in Thunder Bay during the month of December.
That information comes from the Thunder Bay Police Service, which issued data on their holiday RIDE program efforts Wednesday.
According to police, there were 25 impaired driving charges laid during the month, which is about the same total as last year.
But more targeted and mobile enforcement checkpoints were utilized in order to help negate the impact of people using social media to warn others of Ride checks.
There were also a couple of disturbing incidents during the this year's campaign.
They included an instance were a motorist slammed into a house while trying to avoid a checkpoint, and another where a man was run over while attempting to stop a friend from drinking and driving.
