The 2013 home building season is off to a slow start in Thunder Bay, with lingering winter weather the likely culprit.
According to the latest statistics from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the city saw just four single detached housing starts last month.
That's way down from the 15 starts in April of 2012.
There have been 11 total home starts this year so far, including multiple unit dwellings. That compares to 24 recorded by this time last year.
CMHC Market analyst Warren Philp says home building slipped in April because of winter-like weather in the region.
He adds that the delayed start to the home building season should not affect the CMHC’s optimistic housing forecasts for 2013.
