THUNDER BAY - The monthly housing stats for Thunder Bay have been released.
It appears the home construction industry is beginning to show signs of life, after trending down for six consecutive months.
According to officials with Canada Mortgage and Housing, there were 29 single-detached homes started in June. That's down slightly from the same month last year.
There were twelve multi-unit homes under construction, compared to eleven in 2015.
For the year to date, there have been 70 total housing starts.
CMHC Market Analyst Warren Philp said the numbers are mainly due to stronger apartment construction in the city.
He also credits modest improvements to local employment levels and balanced conditions in the resale market in helping boost housing starts.
