Police in Pikangikum arrested and charged one person Saturday in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation in that community.
Officers with the Pikangikum Police Service, with assistance from the Red Lake Detachment of the OPP and the OPP’s north west region crime unit, are now investigating the death of Fitzgerald Owen, 32, of Pikangikum First Nation.
A post-mortem examination was conducted in Toronto on April, 17. Police now believe that foul play was the led to Owen’s death.
Owen was found in the late evening hours of April 14 on the side of the road. He was transported to the community’s nursing station, but was later pronounced dead.
On Saturday, April 21, police arrested and charged Florence Dunsford, 29, of Pikangikum First Nation with aggravated assault.
She was remanded into custody and is expected to appear in a Kenora courtroom on Wednesday, April 25.
The investigation continues.
