THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre has seen the number of COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital grow again.

The hospital on Thursday announced they have 33 cases in hospital, including a dozen in intensive care, their highest number to date.

Last month, because of the growing number of cases, Thunder Bay Regional announced it was reopening its COVID-19 isolation unit on 3A, seven months after shutting it down because of a lack of use.

The hospital added it had received additional supplies of COVID-19 vaccines this week, adding that last week they administered about 4,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, focusing mostly on high-risk health care workers, including hospital staff and doctors, long-term care residents and staff and essential-care partners.

The hospital currently has an 82 per cent occupancy rate.
