THUNDER BAY - Vaccination of staff at the hospital is nearing 100 per cent, while capacity continues to go down.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre says 90 per cent of staff have been vaccinated for COVID-19.

Currently, there are 18 patients admitted to the TBRHSC with COVID-19, seven of which are in the intensive care unit.

Capacity at the hospital is now at 78 per cent.

As the province continues to face surges in new COVID-19 cases, the provincial government has directed hospitals in Southern Ontario to ramp down all elective surgeries and non-emergent activities in an effort to preserve critical care and human resources.

The ramping down will begin on Monday, April 12 but in a statement issued on Friday, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre said it is not included in that instruction at this time.
