THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday will lift some of its last COVID-19 response requirements for visitors and staff.

In a release issued on Tuesday, hospital officials said patients, essential care partners and care partners will no longer be required to wear masks when entering the hospital, though care partners will continue to have to wear one if they are symptomatic or based on infection and prevention and control protocols.

Staff, professional staff, learners and volunteers will still be required to wear a mask when providing direct patient care and as required under IPAC protocols. Masking will no longer be required in public areas, such as the cafeteria or Robin’s Donuts.

The hospital will continue to provide mask at the entrance for those who wish to continue using one while on site, and visitors will be required to sanitize their hands and self-screen for symptoms as posted at the entrances to the facility.

The main entrance will be open to the public from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the 24-hour emergency department will  be isolated from the rest of the facility, meaning no public access to the rest of the hospital from the ER.

Renal doors for renal patients, as well as essential care and care partners will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m and Door G, for after hours MRI patients will be open from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
