THUNDER BAY -- The hospital can cross a few items off its wish list just in time for Christmas.

Thanks to the John Andrews Foundation and its more than $86,000, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre was able to purchase several pieces of much needed equipment, including a new labour and delivery bed and neonatal ventilator.

The foundation, set up by the late industrialist John Andrews, gave another $30,000 to help fund the hospital's new YAG laser for eye care.

To-date, the foundation has given nearly $800,000 to the hospital.

"We've always been a supporter of the hospital," chairman Allan McKitrick said.

"We've donated ever since the hospital came into being."

Hospital executive vice-president Mark Henderson said it's great to see that the foundation considers the hospital a worthy place to continue funding.

"This foundation has been a wonderful foundation not just for the hospital but for many organizations in Thunder Bay," he said.

Donations are still needed for the hospital wish list, which can be made online healthsciencesfoudnation.ca/wishlist
