Hospital reports uptick in COVID-19 patients

There were 39 patients admitted to Thunder Bay's regional hospital with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, up by 50 per cent from the previous week.

THUNDER BAY – The number of COVID-positive patients admitted to Thunder Bay’s regional hospital has risen, the hospital’s weekly update showed on Tuesday.

There were 39 patients testing positive for COVID-19 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre as of Tuesday, up from 26 in the previous update on July 25.

The number was at 20 on July 18, and at 25 on July 11.

Of the 39 COVID-positive patients Tuesday, just one was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, matching last week’s figure.

There is one active COVID-19 outbreak at TBRHSC, on the 1A Medical and Acute Oncology Unit, declared July 20.

In its update Tuesday, the hospital also reported its overall medical/surgical occupancy at 100 per cent, and ICU occupancy at 81.8 per cent, both within a few percentage points of last week’s totals.
