House fire leads to charge for failing to maintain smoke alarm

An Oct. 5 house fire has led to charges against Beendigen Incorporated. The fire took place on at a Balsam Street home and resulted in two young boys being taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The fire took place on at a Balsam Street home and resulted in two young boys being taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. 

As a result of an investigation, Beendigen has been charged with failing to maintain smoke alarms in an operating condition.

The organization has also been ordered to develop a written plan for smoke alarm maintenance procedures . 

This follows inspections that showed problems with alarms at other Beendigen owned and operated properties.
