THUNDER BAY -- Housing starts in this area continue to lag behind statistics from 2013.

The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation on Wednesday released new data showing 21 single and 18 multi unit starts in this city for the month of September.

CMHC analyst Warren Philp said while multi-family units will likely meet the 10 year average for this area, he’s less optimistic about single-detached starts.

“When we look at the year as a whole, we’re sitting at 115 single (-detached starts) and 52 multi family starts,” Philp said during an interview with CKPR Radio.

“That is quite a bit behind last year by this time when we were sitting at 153 for single (-detached starts) and 125 for multi (-detached starts).

Last year the area recorded 193 single-detached starts, but this year Philps projects the area will record about 160.
