Housing starts remain low compared to 2013 numbers: CMHC

Recently released data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows there were 21 new single detached starts in the city last month, along with four multi-unit starts.

That compares to 29 single detached and six multiple unit starts in August of last year.

That brings total new housing starts for the year to 94, which is down from the 132 recorded at this point of 2013.

Projections for the rest of the year are also low, with the CMHC expecting the final tally for 2014 to top out at 229 new housing starts.

The total for 2013 was 275..
