A strong summer for housing starts continued through August in the Thunder Bay area.

Officials with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation say so far this year 202 housing units have been started in the city.

Of those 202 starts, 132 were single-detached homes and 70 were multi-unit residences.

For the month of August, there were 29 single-detached home starts. That's above the 10-year average, and three more than the same month last year.

the CMHC's Warren Philp expects the strong numbers to continue this month due to the amount of building permits that have been issued.

That would put Thunder Bay on pace for more than 200 single-detached homes, for the second year in a row.
