FORT FRANCES, Ont. - A hunter pleaded guilty to several offences after discharging a firearm in the direction of another hunter.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, a Fort Frances man spotted three deer on private property in a field off Bolen Road near Barwick. The man fired three shots at the deer while standing on the road, which was in the direction of another hunter in a tree stand.

The hunter in the tree stand feared for his safety and contacted the MNRF through a third party. Conservation officers attended the scene. It was discovered the hunter firing at the deer did not have the landowner’s permission to be hunting on the property.

The hunter pleaded guilty to careless hunting and trespassing and is facing fines of $2,800. He will also be required to complete 50 hours of community service and his hunting license has been suspended for three years. Before applying for a hunting license again, he must complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course.
