Hunter leads District Open by one shot

Seven golfers are within five shots of the lead at the 36-hole event, which wraps up on Sunday at Fort William Country Club.

THUNDER BAY – It’s tight at the top of the AON District Open leaderboard.

Jeff Hunter, who hasn’t won the championship in 13 years, took a one-shot lead on Saturday at Whitewater Golf Club, firing a 2-under 70.

Nathan Lepore is second, after a 1-under 71 and Walter Keating Jr., a four-time winner of the event, is another shot back after an even-par round of 72.

Matthew Cho-Chu is fourth, shooting 74 on Saturday and a trio of golfers are five back of Hunter’s lead, a group that includes Rob Atatise, Evan DeGrazia and Brett Shewchuk.

The 36-hole event, the season's first local major, wraps up on Sunday at Fort William Country Club.
