Three Dryden hunters have been fined a total of $4,200 for illegally killing a moose.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reports that a Dryden man was fined $2,600 for shooting a moose from a road and being in possession of an illegally killed animal.

Along with the fine, the man is also banned from hunting in the province for two years.

His all-terrain vehicle and firearm was seized, and will be returned after the fine has been paid.

Another man and woman, also from Dryden, were fined $800 for being in possession of an illegally killed animal.

Both are banned form hunting in Ontario for a year.

The court heard that on Dec. 4, the trio was hunting near Beaverhouse Road, located southwest of Dryden.

The hunting party came upon a bull moose.

One of the hunters left the vehicle and shot the moose while standing on the road.

The moose ran into the surrounding bush and was retrieved by the hunting party.

Justice of the Peace Edith Baas heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Dryden, on Jan. 17.
