The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is weighing in on the controversy surrounding the NDP's disciplining of the two Thunder Bay area MPs.
In an open letter to interim leader Nycole Turmel, the organization has expressed disappointment over the suspension of the privileges of Bruce Hyer (NDP, Thunder Bay – Superior North) and John Rafferty (NDP, Thunder Bay – Rainy River).
In the letter, it states the NDP has never had an official policy on the long-gun registry, does not mention the issue in it policy handbook and has failed to pass resolutions on the registry at several NDP conventions.
Based on this, OFAH officials say it defies belief that the party would discipline members who have voted their conscience and represented the wishes of their constituents.
The letter goes on to urge Turmel to re-think her position on the issue.
