Hydro customers left without power after vehicle strikes pole

About 1,600 Thunder Bay Hydro customers were left without power after a vehicle struck a utility pole Monday afternoon. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Dawson Road just south of Paquette Road.

About 1,600 Thunder Bay Hydro customers were left without power after a vehicle struck a utility pole Monday afternoon.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Dawson Road just south of Paquette Road. A single vehicle hit the pole causing it to splinter and fall.

Police spokesman Chris Adams said the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and didn’t suffer any major injuries.

Emergency personnel including Thunder Bay Police Service and Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue were on the scene along with Thunder Bay Hydro.

As of 3 p.m., 400 customers were still without power, but TB Hydro spokeswoman Eileen Dias said all power is expected to be restored by 5 p.m.
